How to find us
Lovelace is fully committed to the promotion of sustainable travel. This has been recognised with the school being awarded GOLD in TfL’s accreditation scheme for schools – a real testament to how we challenge our children to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely.
Travelling by bicycle
We have a covered Bicycle Parking Area for secure storage of bikes during the day. In addition we have new bicycle hoops at the front of school. There are plans to extend and improve the cycling network within Chessington and up towards the school. If travelling by bike – cycles should be “walked” on the school grounds and locked up if left on the site during the school day
Travelling by Walking/Scootering
The school has two pedestrian entrances from Mansfield Road and Devon Way served by wide footpaths. We encourage scootering to school, and we have scooter storage near to both entrances. Scooters need to be “walked” on the school grounds and locked up if left on the site during the school day.
Travelling by bus
The nearest bus stop is located in Hook Road (A243), just a five-minute walk from the school. This stop is served by services 71 and 465. The 71 travels between Chessington and Kingston via Hook. There is a 71 bus every 10 minutes. The 465 travels between Kingston and Dorking and passes through Chessington every half hour. Woodgate Avenue, which is halfway along Mansfield Road, is served by the K4 from Kingston and this continues into the Mansfield estate. This is a half hourly service. Additional bus routes can be accessed outside the local Hook Library including the K2 which goes into North Kingston and to Kingston Hospital.
Travelling by train/tube
The nearest train station is Chessington North Station. Trains arrive and depart from this station every half an hour. Trains travel into London, to Waterloo Station via stations such as Wimbledon.
The station is a 15-minute walk from the school. From the school, travel along Mansfield Road and cross the Bridge Road Roundabout onto Bridge Road. The station is off Bridge Road after a five-minute walk and before you reach North Parade shops.
Travelling by car
Visiting Lovelace? We are part of RBK ‘Safestreets’ scheme operated by the Royal Borough of Kingston. This ensures that walking to school is a pleasure and safe for all pedestrians. This means you cannot drive up Mansfield Road to the school (beyond Coppard Gardens) from 8:15am – 9:15am and 2:30pm – 3:30pm. If you do, you will receive a penalty notice (fine) from The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Please note that this also applies to the access via Devon Way. Visitors are welcome to park in the car park at The Kings Centre in Coppard Gardens (KT9 2GZ) and take the short walk to our school from there. For further detail of this scheme – which became permanent on 7th April 2021 – visit Kingston School Streets
